General Information

Students scheduled for the classroom phase of Fall Session 1 will start the behind-the-wheel phase February 2019.

Driver and Traffic Safety Education involves all those learning experiences provided for the purpose of helping students learn to use motor vehicles safely, efficiently, and effectively. This objective is achieved through sequences of interrelated experiences involving both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. NC Law requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction.

The Cumberland County Schools offer Driver Education after school hours with two sessions during the Fall and Spring semesters and two summer sessions are offered annually.   Check the Fall/Spring and Summer Dates for the when the classroom phase will be offered for the coming school year.  The 6 hours of the practical or behind-the-wheel phase is offered after the classroom phase of the course is completed and will be held after school hours Monday thru Saturday during the school year and Monday thru Friday during the summer.
